The purpose of The Mac Book Swap is to provide a free, easy way to connect Macalester College students who need to buy and sell used textbooks.
The Mac Book Swap (Mac Book Swap) was thought up in the Spring of 2003 by some Macalester College students who wanted a more organized way to get the word out
across campus that they had textbooks to sell. Sure, there were the bulletin boards in the campus center, and there were the "Today" announcements,
but these never seemed like enough. Furthermore, they weren't easily accessible or organized for everyone. So, we decided to do something about it, and
you're looking at it!
There are a bunch of options, of course, for people who want to sell their books. Using online auction/sales sites is one such alternative, but
that usually includes shipping costs AND a cut for the site that lists your book. This site is probably the best way for you to sell your books here on campus
-- not only will you be able to sell your book for more, but you'll be able to deliver it for free (well, at the cost of a walk across campus, perhaps)
and we don't take a cut! That's right, the Mac Book Swap is completely free to use for the Macalester community. There's no price to list and no cut taken
from sales.
The Mac Book Swap uses a database to store book information listings. Anyone can add a book without a complicated sign-up or login procedure (such as most
sites that require entering tons of information about yourself).
All transactions take place offline,
the Mac Book Swap moderators have no way of knowing if you have sold your book. So you've GOT TO HELP US! When you first add a book to the site,
you'll be asked for your name, a little contact information, and a password. This way, when you need to change information about your book
(such as the price!) or when you sell a book, you can quickly log in and make the changes yourself.
We welcome ideas for improvement. We're on the fourth iteration of the site and we keep ironing out issues,
but forgive us if a few still remain. Be sure to get in touch if you have suggestions, comments, or constructive criticism.
You will need a Javascript-enabled browser to add books to this site.
Thanks for visiting!
